Here’s a secret that I’ve used every year!

The other day, I was sitting in front of the fire enjoying my Christmas decor.

It suddenly dawned me that I haven’t shared one of my rockstar holiday hacks with you!

One of my favorite seasonal accents to add to my home each Christmas season is artificial greenery.

Sometimes, the premade Christmas garlands look a bit…meh.

It is a great addition to any artificial garland or artificial wreath.

Simply tuck a few extra sprigs of faux greenery to any Christmas wreath or garland to add the oomph it needs.

I did that to our faux garlands that I used in our dining room.

These artificial pine garlands needed something more, so some pine cones and sprigs of cedar were the perfect addition to add the feel of natural elements to the room.

In our living room, I did the same thing to our winter garland I hung on my mantel.

The fireplace is the focal point of the room, so you always want it looking the best it can.

By simply tucking in a few extra sprigs of greenery is the perfect way to add volume or variety to a simple garland.

And in stead of floral arrangements, I love to fill vases, bowls and pitchers with faux Christmas greenery.

It’s simple to do and always ups the decor without making your home look overwhelming or competing with the other holiday decoration displays.

Frequently Asked Questions

What other items can I add faux Christmas stems to?

Let your imagination go wild!

Christmas wreaths, pre-lit swags, even artificial trees!

I used to set up a wooden ladder and decorate it with artificial Christmas garland, wreaths and stems to create a unique (and extremely affordable) holiday tree!

This year, I wanted some serious curb-side appeal, so I added the faux greenery to our mailbox.

With outdoor decor, you just want to make sure that you are securing it well. You don’t want it blowing away in the wind! 😉

Where can I buy artificial Christmas foliage?

You can usually find greenery stems anywhere you can purchase an artificial Christmas tree, with the exception of hardware stores.

Craft stores have an entire section where you can purchase faux plants. Once they start rolling out the holiday decor, look for the beautiful Christmas greenery.

Target or Walmart are great options to check out. They are usually mixed in with the other Christmas decorations.

When is the best time to buy faux Christmas greenery?

I love to shop at the end of the season to score all of the deep discounts.

However, with greenery – the earlier you purchase, the better!

That’s because many times, the best sellers are gone.

What about real greenery?

The one thing that is always missing from faux greenery is that fresh scent of pine needles.

I love the smell of fresh greenery and sometimes nothing beats the real thing!

One tip to score greenery on the cheap is to head to your Christmas tree lot, or wherever they sell Christmas trees.

Most of the time, you can get the branches they trim off the bottom for free!

Here are some tips for adding real greenery to your home:

  • Use fresh garland, but if you are decorating early, the real stuff doesn’t last long. You can try this faux cedar garland which I love!
  • Add some clear lights to enhance the smell. When the lights warm the branch tips- it smells great. But again – the real deal doesn’t last long!
