How One Piece of Furniture Created a Space I Love
Thank you to Rooms to Go for working in partnership and compensating me for this post.
We recently moved to our home – just about 8 months ago.
And I finally have a room. All to myself. I’ve even nicknamed it the Jen Den.
So you know all the details, this is monumental for me in this house of testosterone. Every place we’ve lived, we’ve only had one family room. And since I’m the only girl, it couldn’t be too girly.
But now, that means I can create a space that is feminine but cozy at the same time. A space where I can read, or have coffee with a friend, or watch hours of Downton Abbey on repeat!
And with any move, sometimes your old furniture just doesn’t quite fit in the new space. And neither does your budget.
We’ve been juggling couches to make my Jen Den a comfy haven. Our first sofa was too big, so we moved that downstairs to our family room in the basement. Here’s a pic from last Christmas.
The arms were too angular and masculine for my liking. Plus the sofa was too deep, which jut out into the walkway too much.
So that meant bringing up an older couch that was in our playroom at the old house, but this sofa is weathered, worn, and honestly uncomfortable.
It was more the look I wanted, but the cushions were flat and the slipcovers were showing their age. Plus, it seemed too small for the space.
And I found myself not really spending time in my room!
I really wanted a room that I loved, but didn’t have a budget to redo the entire room.
So today, I would love to show how one piece of furniture created a space I love, without any other updates to the room.
Where’d I start? Online, of course!
I found this gorgeous couch from Rooms to Go and immediately fell in love with this Pennington sofa.
It was light, classic and definitely feminine. I checked the measurements to make sure it would be not to deep, but not too short. I wanted it to be just right for my Jen Den.
But with any sofa I purchase, I have to do the sit down test to make sure it was comfy.
Trent and I went to our local Rooms to Go here in Birmingham and was greeted by the nicest salesman who took me to right to the sofa I was looking for!
It was even prettier in person! I learned this was one of their most popular sofas. I could see why, but it had to pass the comfy test, so I gave her a whirl.
After about 30 minutes of sitting and swapping seats, I knew this was the one.
We purchased the sofa and set up delivery for the next week! I was so excited!
A courtesy call a few days before reminded us of the delivery date. The morning of, Trent and I moved the old sofa out of the room.
When the Rooms to Go delivery truck arrived, I couldn’t wait to see my new addition to my Jen Den!
It arrived well packaged and was set up in just a few minutes.
And look at my Jen Den now!
I love the neutral tones of the sofa. The soft blues already match my existing decor!
Now I have a place to entertain my friends, or sit and relax.
We didn’t paint, rehang pictures, or swap out the rug.
We simply replaced the sofa.
It’s amazing how one piece of furniture created a space I love.
