The halls have been decked.

The nog has been egged.

And the log has been yuled. Wait, what?

All that to say, welcome to our Christmas Simplicity Home Tour 2022!

Jen from Noting Grace

If you’re new here, hey! I’m Jen and I’m so glad that you stopped by!

I have approached Christmas this holiday season much differently than I have in the years past.

Typically, I love to have lots and lots of Christmas decor all over my house consisting of multiple tree and greenery everywhere.

It kind of looks like Christmas exploded!

But this year is a little bit different.

If you are coming here for the first time, then you may not know the challenges that we’ve been going through as a family. My husband recently had to have open heart surgery – he’s doing wonderful by the way!

But with all of that came some hurdles that really didn’t put us in much of a holiday spirit.

So if you find yourself going through some sort of struggle – be it physical, mental, financial, or whatever it may be – I’ve got you covered!

Here is a very simple way to add touches of Christmas decor. Enough to get you in the holiday spirit, not too much to overwhelm you, but beautiful none the less.

The theme for us this year is Simplicity.

I wanted to create a feeling of calmness after we’ve had such a busy season of doctors appointments, hospital visits and people coming over to wish as well and deliver us meals.

I wanted a very relaxing environment.

And while I thought I may be passing up on decorating at all this year, it all changed when I found this new tree!

For the last 5 years, we have used the same tree over and over.

Being budget-minded, I always just reused it again and again and again.

But truth be told – I didn’t care for the tree that we used simply because it was not pre-lit. And the shape was…meh.

So when we were running to our favorite big box hardware store, I saw this tree.

The lights were beautiful and the needles actually looked like a very realistic tree.

Now it’s a pricier tree for us!

This tree comes in just right at $350.

But setting it up was absolutely the biggest game-changer for me.

Typically you have the base that you put the lower section in. If it’s already real pre-wired, you have to plug the lights in and then put the second section on and then plug those lights in and so on.

This tree has a connecting mechanism that works when the two pieces meet together. Suddenly, the lights work!

I don’t know what kind of special magic they did to make that happen, but I absolutely love how easy this tree is to set up!

Check out my video on Youtube to watch how easy it is!

Another thing that I love about this tree is the option of color of light.

You can either go with a multicolored look or stay with solid lights. Plus you have the option of a solid-state color or a flash between the colors.

Here’s a link to check it out if you are in the market for a new tree.

I did create some new ornaments for the tree in this room, but for the most part it is a very minimally decorated tree.

No star – no extra greenery – just a few ornaments here are there in neutral tones to just allow us to enjoy the twinkling lights and relax in front of the fire.

Christmas in Our Living Room

As I mentioned, I wanted to keep things simple this year.

So for our upstairs living room, I just added a faux cedar garland across the top of our fireplace mantel.

Then I added some little fairy lights that you can control by a remote.

Next I added a candelabra, a small vase filled with some greenery and called it done.

It was simple and quick – and the best thing is it can also last all winter long!

So when the tree comes down and the ornaments get put away, I can still leave my mantel decorated for all winter season and I love that simplicity.

For the sofa, I just added a small little pillow that says Merry Christmas that my boys gave me this year for my birthday.

They know I love decor and love to decorate for Christmas so this ended up working perfectly for this room.

This may have also helped to change our ba-hum-bug spirits!

I took our Reupholstered Ottoman that we had in our basement and moved it upstairs.

I added a simple hyacinth woven tray.

I completed the tray with a white pitcher filled with simple faux greenery and some small little embellishments here and there.

For the side table, I have a bowl filled with more greenery, some pine cones, and holiday bells.

And that’s it for this room!

Super simple – super quick, but enough to invoke that Christmas spirit.

Decorating Our Sunroom

Usually in the sunroom, I set up and decorate another Christmas tree.

Like I said – Christmas exploded!

But this year, I went low key.

I found a deal at Walmart with this small pine tree.

I placed the tree in the corner.

Then I added some wreaths to the walls and added a bowl filled with greenery and some candles.

I also created this new DIY bottle brush wreath that was super simple to make.

A tutorial will be coming for that DIY wreath very soon! 😉

Christmas in Our Dining Room

In our dining room, I started by placing some Christmas garland on the table with some white pillar candles.

I also placed the same garland across our China hutch.

I love the little bottle brush trees so I added those on the shelves of the hutch here and there.

It just created that perfect simple touch of Christmas.

I also added this small evergreen plant in this cute snowflake planter that I got from the dollar spot at Target last year.

I added the same fairy lights that I used on my mantel to the garland on the table.

It adds that perfect ambiance for evening meals.

Christmas in Our Basement

For bloggers, it is always good to change your decor year after year.

But honestly, I did not have the bandwidth to do that this year.

So in our basement, I just repeated what I set up for last year’s Moody Christmas vibe.

This is a flocked tree made from King of Christmas.

I’ve had this tree for many years and it is still going strong!

The only thing is I wish I would have gotten the pre-lit tree. Running the lights on the flocked tree does create a bit of a mess.

But since the tree is in such great shape, I continue to use it year after year.

I love how it pops against our accent wall in our basement.

Christmas in Our Kitchen

The only other area that I decorated this season was a small little ledge in our kitchen next to our breakfast nook.

It’s not even really an eat-in kitchen right now because we are in transition mode.

Our son took our table down to college so I’m still on the hunt on the Facebook Marketplace for the perfect table.

So minimal decor in this room as well.

But just enough to give a nod to the season.

Hope in the Midst of Your Overwhelm

So are you finding a struggle to decorate this year?

When you decorate your home, there is one thing to keep in mind.

The more stuff that you have in a room can create a very cozy feeling.

But it can also have the opposite effect – meaning if you are surrounded by a lot of chaos and clutter, and your life is filled with a lot of chaos and clutter, you don’t really get that wonderful escape of being able to relax in your home.

So I opted for not too much of an overwhelmed feeling.

It’s still creates that relaxing environment that we’re hoping to have this holiday season.

So if you are in that state of overwhelm, first off you are not alone!

I’m right there with you!

We still can enjoy the holiday and we can still create those touches of the Christmas season in our home without it being a burden for us.

I hope this inspires you!

  6. I loved this Jen. I struggled for years with a tree that had to be assembled and the lights added-I always promised myself I would grab one after season, but they are never left. but God is in the details and a neighbor threw away one I could never afford! I happily upcycled it (complete with storage bag) and marveled at the ease of setup and the choice of lighting colors! We are in explosion mode and are trying to cut back. 10. Happy Almost December!

    Thank you for this post.

Out of all the Christmas decor posts I’ve seen this year, this one spoke to me the most.

We’re not always in the right season of our lives (no puns intended) to do huge Christmas decoration schemes (although, honestly, yours is spectacular).

What matters is doing enough that your family feels happy and cozy. That’s it. Happy and cozy. That could be a single 2-foot Christmas tree (as it was in my early 20’s). Or much more.

Giant hugs to you and your family. I am wishing you a happy and healthy holiday season.
