Here was the state of our front door when we moved into our home.

Dark, sad and faded. And certainly not very welcoming.

Plus the paint was interior based – not meant for an exterior door. And the hardware?

What hardware?

It fades into the door – blending in where you can hardly see it. Definitely not how I wanted to be greeting my guests this holiday season.

So what do you do with a dark, sad and faded door? You give it a makeover! An easy front door refresh for Christmas.

I am overjoyed to be on the “12 Doors of Christmas” team, hosted by Delaney Hardware. They are celebrating the season with this campaign, hoping to inspire homeowners to adorn their front entrances to welcome holiday guests.  Here’s how we transformed our front door into a welcoming entry.

Easy Front Door Refresh for Christmas

To begin with, we gave the door a fresh coat of paint. This beautiful blue is called Starless Night. Two coats of paint were completed in one day.

What a difference, right?

And your eye is immediately drawn to the door.

All because of that gorgeous satin nickel hardware.

After that second coat was dry, we installed the new entrance handleset in just 15 minutes. The hardware we chose was the Wicklow handleset in a satin nickel finish. This beautiful handset can also be purchased at Home Depot, Build.com, or Wayfair.

I don’t know what it is about front door paint, but I just love how it shines!

And a fresh green wreath is always a nice touch. It smells perfectly seasonal.

I had some stencils leftover from my stairway makeover earlier this year.

So the next day, I got out some exterior white paint and stenciled our house number to our door.

Another two coats and drying time later and we’re done.

Of course, that Wicklow handleset draws your eye right to that spot!

So next we decorated the rest of the porch area.

I updated the planters framing the door with fresh greenery.

So here’s a helpful tip: Head to your hardware store, or anywhere they sell Christmas trees. They usually give away the cuttings from trees sold for free!!

I added some birch sticks to the planter for some height.

I framed the door with fresh garland. It’s a simple addition that still allows for the front door to be the star of the show.

And my front porch smells amazing, y’all!

After that, I added simple wreaths to the front windows to complete the statement.

These wreaths are artificial, topped with simple burlap bows and blue ribbon.

And just look how it all comes together!
