Blue is my favorite color, but for the past few years, I’ve stuck with neutrals as I’ve been trying to learn what would work in my Almost Farmhouse.

One challenge specifically that I wanted to overcome was being tied to the typical color wheel that each season or holiday dictates.

So how was I going to incorporate Navy and Orange?

To begin with, I started with wood as my base.

Adding natural wood elements was important while styling for this fall.

Since I recently made over my Deconstructed Armchair and my Unfinished Wood Dresser, I wanted to continue that warmth of the woods in other ways.

When I found this LED Natural Wood Lantern, my heart skipped a beat!

But I knew it would look perfect next to my tobacco basket fireplace cover.

Together with a few shiny pumpkins finished off the look!

I wanted the dominant color to be navy.

So I added touches of orange here and there, like in my floral arrangements, pumpkins and with a few pillows.

The faux chinese lantern plants add just the right pop of color such as displayed here in my Chicken Wire Bottle Vase Runner. Together with a few more metallic pumpkins provides the finishing touch.

I so hope this inspires you to think outside the box a bit and to add your favorite color into your seasonal decor and not be tied to the typical color wheel the season calls for.
