Have you ever wondered what income looks like for a blogger? Here is a Real Life Blogging Income Report from a diy/home blogger with what we are making this Month. Affiliate links are provided for your convenience.

I’m Late! I’m a month late, in fact!

And one thing you may not know about me is that I HATE being late. I’d rather be 20 minutes early than 2 minutes late. But there are moments when you have to give yourself grace and allow you to enjoy the craziness around you – even though that To Do list is hanging over your head.

Well, friends – I’ve needed buckets of grace these past few weeks.

Still recovering from all the changes in our family that I posted about in last month’s Real Life Blogging Income Report, I barely could keep up with life that still went on the rest of April and all of May.

Easter
School Play performances and Field Trips
End of School festivities
The One Room Challenge
Family Visits

The list goes on and on.

And to top it off, I had a medical issue that I needed to address that interrupted my regularly scheduled programming this month. But all is well and back to normal.

And it’s easy to get buried under all the to do’s and not address the real heart issues. So grace and space and rest were given when needed and it’s a-okay!

So since I’m a month behind, I’ll be sharing the numbers for April and May.

Real Life Blogging Income Report

Since pay periods vary based on either time or amount, I separate out my report into income earned versus income paid.

Income Earned for April:

Ad Networks (google Adsense and Content.ad)$223.19
Affiliate Earnings $115.72

Total Earned:  $338.91

April Income Paid:

Ad Networks $57.42
Affiliate Earnings  $168.84

Total Received:  $226.26

April Expenses:

Decor Purchases / Supplies for ORC: $201.85
BoardBooster for Pinterest: $10

Total Spent: $211.85

Total Profit: $14.41

sigh

At least it’s not in the negative, but as a home blogger, decor and supply purchases can sometimes overwhelm the budget.

And now for May:

Ad Networks (google Adsense and Content.ad)$238.68
Affiliate Earnings $78.67

Total Earned:  $317.35

May Income Paid:

Ad Networks $234.76
Affiliate Earnings  $0

Total Received:  $234.76

May Expenses:

Supplies for Upcoming Exterior Home Makeover: $228.43
BoardBooster for Pinterest: $10

Total Spent: $238.43

Total Profit: -$3.92

double sigh

It’s tough running uphill all the time. However – this next project is the largest one we’ve ever tackled – painting the exterior of our house. And with the large project comes a large price tag.

While it’s easy to be discouraged by the numbers – I have to look back to see what I made this time last year. I don’t have the expenses broken down, so I’ll only compare the earnings.

Month          2017          2018

April          $79.08       $338.91
May           $51.77        $317.35

There’s the growth! 329% increase for April and 513% increase for May!!

By moving to a self-hosted site and monetizing my blog, I have seen a HUGE increase in my income. While it’s not enough to feed my huge boys, I’m still very encouraged by the numbers!

Be sure to subscribe below so you don’t miss next months report. I’ll share a little more on sponsorships and some programs you can join to increase those opportunities that I didn’t get to in this post.

Thank you over and over for being real.
Also, can you tell me how you are making that much per month on Google Adsense?? I have been using it for almost two years and have a balance of 57 dollars. HELP ME.

IT’s tough isn’t it. I had only just over a 1000 subscribers on youtube when one of my arm knitting video’s went viral and made me roughly $600 in 2 months. It’s a hit and miss, however you should totally turn your DIYS into youtube video’s if it’s not too time consuming. The ads there pay off and it will also boost traffic to your website 😉 Here’s wishing you the best. I’m sure things will only get better if you keep at it!

Thanks so much! That’s a great suggestion! It’s encouraging to hear words from fellow bloggers experiencing the same struggles.

Have you optimized your ads? Once I did that (which I think was an update a few months ago), I noticed the increase. I also increased the number of ads – especially mobile ads. Those perform best for me with google Adsense. Hope that helps!

  • Counting my blessings today. While the past month has had its challenges, I know my God is in control and that is an overwhelming peace to cling to!
May you be given that same peace this evening, dear friends!

  • Sweet Ollie has had quite the week. It started Friday with a cluster of seizures that landed him in the doggie ER. Ever since he’s been home, he seems like a different dog. We aren’t sure if it’s the meds or the effects of the events from Friday, but he’s definitely tuckered out. At least we have glimpses of our sweet boy here and there.
One thing is for sure - we certainly love this mutt and what a perfect way to celebrate that love than on National Love Your Pet Day. We are so thankful that he is on the mend.

  • Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for your encouragement, reassurance, kind words, and prayers! Ollie came home last night and slowly has been coming back to the sweet mutt we know and love. The past few days have been so traumatic for him so he’s been out of sorts. .
But as the day goes on, both he and I are on the mend and I thank you for all the prayers - truly! .

  • Well, we found out yesterday that our sweet Ollie is epileptic. We had suspicions, but never saw them with our own eyes, until yesterday. He had a cluster of them and is at the doggy ER to get them under control. It was scary and we felt so helpless. .
In the midst of it, I somehow pulled a muscle in my leg and have been couch bound most of the day. Funny how things fall like dominoes, isn’t it? But we are thankful that Ollie is getting the treatment he needs and we have hope that we can get this under control. Thank you for being a sounding board over the past few weeks while we’ve tried to figure this out! I love this supportive community!

  • Well today is a wonderful day! My momma is in town to visit with us for the long weekend and all of us are so excited! .
That also means that my house is clean, so I made a point to take a few extra pics. I can’t wait to transform this space later this Spring! Plans are brewing - that’s for sure!
