How are you doing with all the news coming down the pike?

For the past week, Trent and I thought – in true Bugs Bunny form “What a bunch of malarky!”

You see, up until a few days ago, Alabama had been Covid-19 virus free so we felt confident that all would be ok.

Then one day totally turned it around for us.

We went to pick up groceries and noticed how empty the shelves were.

We hit 3 stores in an hour, trying to gather what we could. Not out of fear for the virus, but fear that we wouldn’t have food to feed our boys.

Then we got word that there was a confirmed case in our state. Then in our city.

And it hit us hard.

Churches closed, the governor issued a state of emergency, and they cancelled school for the next 3 weeks.

We were so thankful that we were able to gather the items that we could that morning.

But we don’t want to live in this state of fear. So listen to this promise from our gracious God.

for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
2 Timothy 1:7

I stumbled across an old writing of C.S. Lewis and his reaction to the atomic bomb and the frenzied activity around the preparedness.

He says, “If we are all going to be destroyed by an atomic bomb, let that bomb when it comes find us doing sensible and human things—praying, working, teaching, reading, listening to music, bathing the children, playing tennis, chatting to our friends over a pint and a game of darts—not huddled together like frightened sheep and thinking about bombs. They may break our bodies (a microbe can do that) but they need not dominate our minds.“

Just replace each atomic bomb with Corona Virus. I hope that we can find rest in God’s sovereignty.

So I pray this gives you some peace! And maybe a good distraction!
