We’ve been making over our Master Bedroom since January and today is the day, y’all! I can’t wait to share this Modern French Country Bedroom Refresh with you!

I think I say this every time I share a room reveal, but I think this one is my favorite. Maybe it’s because I love seeing rooms renewed with our own touches on it.

From an accent wall, to ceiling beams – I cannot wait to get to this room each night!

Let’s go back in time to a few months ago and what this room started like.

What a snoozer! Not that having a bedroom as a snoozer is a bad thing since this is where you want to sleep, but now that it’s a stunner – I admit I sleep better!

Last year, we made over our en suite bathroom, and it was definitely time to tackle this room!

Ever since I fell in love with French country design, I had big dreams for this room.

Here’s what it looks like now!

We started by scraping all the popcorn off our ceilings and that was the first thing we wanted to change!

It baffles me when those dated ceiling go bye-bye!

So the big purchase item in this room were the beams for this space.

I had to really think about this ceiling design.

We have rinky dink walls – the standard 8 foot tall walls – which is a challenge for our house of tall people. So I didn’t want them to feel imposing.

But it’s amazing how the architectural details of adding an element of natural materials like these beams created that French farmhouse feel.

We made these DIY wooden beams out of cedar boards and I LOVE how they turned out! You can read the full tutorial here.

The fun part of making over a room with a French country look is choosing the paint colors.

We went with a neutral color palette and opted for 3 white walls and one accent wall behind our headboard.

The biggest task in this makeover was sanding this bed down from the original black to this distressed look.

This bed is definitely the focal point for this room.

It took us about 10 days from start to finish to get to all those detailed curves, but it was worth it!

I share tips and tricks on how to sand furniture if you want to tackle a large project like this one.

We left our dresser the original black. I thought it was a nice compliment to the black accent wall.

We did remove the original mirror and I added this vintage french country mirror in it’s place.

I also updated our matelasse quilt. We had had that quilt for over 10 years and while I loved the look, we were ready for something new.

French country bedding varies from pale blues or toile fabric.

seersucker bedding

I opted for a soft color for the bedspread with a seersucker type of fabric.

I found this bedspread from Target. It’s from Chip and Jo’s Hearth and Hand collection.

I topped it with this chenille blanket at the end of the bed to soften the look a bit and add a French country cottage flair.

Adding my mineral painted fabric chair in the corner from the sunroom seemed like the perfect fit.

The carved wood adds feminine details to the room.

I love how it fits the modern french country vibe.

I love olive trees and these are some of my favorite ones from Ver Decor! Sources coming soon for these!

We updated our bedside tables by changing out the hardware and adding these DIY French Shutter sconces.

Using any vintage piece in your home decor is a great way to incorporate French country decorating.

The framed prints in this room are from my family’s homestead. Adding heirlooms to our home is one of my favorite ways to decorate!

They are post cards from the first world war from my great, great uncle.

I plan to scan these in an offer them as printables soon – so stay tuned for that one!

I also added this fun little shelf between our Master Closet and our bathroom doors.

It was a nice way to break up the white color scheme of the wall and doors.
